So 2018 was a difficult year, although we did some great things. But it is only now that I look at what we did in 2019, I realise it has been a year of making the most of our time and probably overcompensating with lots of trips and doing fun things together as a family. It’s not a bad thing though, and we have made so many amazing family memories that I could never have dreamed of happening in just one year! So, 2020 may not be as crazy as 2019 but we are happy to chill out and see where the year takes us. Here is my 2019 year in review.
The beginning of the 2019 year in review
In January we were in all kinds of stages of emotions after the previous year, but I found a great deal on a cruise to try to help us relax. At the end of the month, we spent a week cruising the Caribbean and Central America. Although taking a cruise is not my favourite type of travelling, we would not have been able to see so many great places all in one go, especially with a toddler.
We flew to Jamaica and enjoyed stops in Honduras, Guatemala, Belize and Mexico. My favourite destination was Belize where we enjoyed a wildlife boat tour and is one one the places I would like to return to. The ship was nice and relaxed and we managed to enjoy the downtime. However, even after a week we still felt a bit constrained by the timings and stops. That being said it was so good to get some sunshine at this time of the year and we are lucky to have visited and explored these exotic destinations.
Iceland in March
One of the highlights of my 2019 year in review was our amazing road trip in Iceland. It was cold and the driving conditions were a bit difficult but it was a great adventure. We toured the golden circle, then stayed in a beautiful location near to Reynisfjara black sand beach. We caught a glimpse of the northern lights, visited Vik and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and beach. It was absolutely fantastic and can’t wait to go back and explore more of Iceland’s stunning natural beauty. Maybe we will return in the summer next time?
Summer Disney Magic
A splurge for our daughters third birthday but totally worth it! We spent a few days in Disneyland Paris making memories that will last a lifetime. We stayed in Hotel Cheyenne which is Toy Story themed. But we didn’t spend much time in the hotel. Character meals, rides and plenty of fun, an exhausting but magical time. There’s loads to do for toddlers, plenty of great rides and if you are like me you can take advantage of single rider short queues on the top rides too! Another place I want to return to!
Desert adventure and city hopping!
Our biggest trip of the year was in September where we travelled to Budapest, then onto a tour of Jordan then Italy. We flew to Budapest as the flights were much more reasonable to Amman from here. We enjoyed a few days in Budapest then flew to Amman to begin our tour of Jordan. I can honestly say it was the experience if a lifetime. We toured Amman and stayed here for one night, before heading south to Wadi Rum desert and Wadi Musa for Petra. The highlight of the trip was seeing the Treasury, a bucket list item for me. We stayed in Wadi Musa and then moved on to the dead sea for some rest and relaxation. Floating in the dead sea was such a surreal and unique experience! Then we finished our tour visiting Mount Nebo and Madaba.
After a fantastic trip in Jordan we flew back to Budapest for one night. Ready to fly to Venice the next day. I absolutely love Venice, this is my fourth visit and it never gets old! Our girl enjoyed exploring the maze of streets and canals. We also took a family Gondala ride too! Then we travelled by train to Verona, spending some time in a lovely apartment and relaxing in this beautiful city. An amazing and memorable trip!
Peppa pig world for Halloween
I always worry about time passing me by. Sometimes you can put things off, but then it is too late. So we decided to visit Peppa pig world for the second time before our girl grew out of it. At this time of the year it was dressed for Halloween and even the characters were in their own Halloween costumes. It was a fun day out and I’m so glad we did it as I think the rides may be too young for her next year.
Edinburgh at Christmas time
We got away for two nights as a couple and managed to visit the Christmas market and enjoy some of the local pubs and bars. Although we had some great moments, it was quite stressful and not the relaxing break we had envisioned. Next time we think our girl will come along with us.
What is in store for 2020?
We did plenty of other fun things not listed but if you follow my Instagram or Facebook page then you will be able to see more of where we have been and what we are doing.
Next year, we are having a bit of a break and saving some money. Yes, that’s right we have nothing booked! It’s quite scary for me, but there are some places I would love to go and saving is required! I don’t want to go somewhere for the sake of it, or just to tick off another country. Plus after such an amazing year we need to slow down. I’m sure some things will come up and we will travel, just don’t know where yet!
