CitizenM New York hotel review– Tech hotel in the city
We stayed at CitizenM in March 2015. Its a relatively new hotel and the concept intrigued me so I thought I would give it a try.
The location is 50th at Broadway and seconds from Times Square so a great base to explore. It is also a few steps away from the subway so easy to get to and from.
As it describes itself as a tech hotel check in was self service using the circular computer desk as you enter the hotel. There were a staff around who helped the process so it wasn’t necessarily do it yourself which was good!
We were given a room on the 17th floor, all of the rooms in the hotel are the same. There are no upgrades or different sizes or designs so you know what you are getting before you go.
The room facilities are all controlled by a Samsung tablet device. The TV, light settings, blinds and curtains. I liked the mood settings which controlled the lights including the colours of the shower cubicle. We did have some issues with the tablet, it stopped working a few times and had to be reset by reception.
The room is compact but clever, there is space in the wardrobe and under the bed for storage, we managed to put away two suitcases worth.
The bed is very big and takes up the entire width of the room, although if you sleep by the window you have to climb over your partner to get up!
The shower was great, two settings including a rain shower which I love.
I always like to have a coffee in the morning before I go out so I was disappointed that there were no in room facilities for this, although I did know before I arrived so it wasn’t a surprise! There is a Dunkin’ donuts a few feet away so I was fine.
We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel, however did use both of the bars. The drinks were a little more expensive than the surrounding area, however the staff were great and it was a cool place to hang out.
There were computers available at the mezzanine level for guests to use. On our last day we checked in for our flights online and printed our boarding passes with no hassle.
We also paid an extra $69 dollars for late check out, which meant we could leave at 6pm for our late flight.
Overall I enjoyed my stay at CitizenM its was in a great location, modern and had almost everything we needed for a base in New York. The prices were high, and there was the unexpected city tax added at the time of payment but was not included in my booking price (through Booking.com)
